The origins of Working Class Vegan Man
It was 1997. I was working for the Nashville Sounds, triple-A baseball club. Homestands demanded relentless work, running around the concession stands, moving kegs and stocking stands, and eating hotdogs—lots of hotdogs.
For energy boosts I slammed pop after pop, and though I constantly ran around, I gained weight.
I felt tired and fat and straight up gross.
I spent my days off watching movies, slurping Dr. Pepper and eating handfuls of popcorn, but during one movie in particular, I wondered how it might feel to look like one of those guys on the big screen. I wallowed in my doughy body and thought, What does Jason Statham feel like?
He looks awesome, drives a nice car, gets the girls, and basically kicks ass all over the place.
So I decided to give it a go, and the first thing I dropped was the pop. I found help in a friend who decided to accept the same challenge, and together, we began working out every day.
We limited our intake of crap food, renouncing hotdogs for ever!
I lost a lot of weight and felt better about myself.
And though my friend and I looked healthy, we had no idea what we were doing. We quit eating a lot of crap, but we didn't really replace the crap with nutrients.
Little by little, I began to learn about beneficial foods and what worked best in my body, but I did all of that on my own, and it took a lot longer than if I would have had some guidance.
That's why I want to help other guys on the same mission. I've been there.
Now what do I do?
So, I'm a vegan, because that lifestyle works best for me and my energy, but we need to find out what works best for YOU! I won't make you turn into a vegan. I don't have those kinds of powers (or aim).
It's more about eating the RIGHT FOODS FOR YOU, not me, and we need to get as many nutritious and whole foods into you, without sacrificing who you are.
We need to find a balanced mix of active living and foods with energy. So, let's spend a few hours together, eat some food, sling some ideas around, and get to the bottom of this.
